MDCartoons - Three-Way Art Collaboration

Okay, guys, here's something you're gonna find interesting.

I'm currently working on "Tales of Pieutira" again as a series, but the idea of drawing all the illustrations would leave me kinda bogged down. So , and I came up with an idea: we split the drawing process three ways, and to do this, I drew out a VG Bros illustration of Mike and his girlfriend Val on a beach date, and the work was divided as follows:

Pencil preparation - . I work out the right shapes and postures of the characters, providing a rough basis for the background, but focusing mostly on the characters within the image.

Ink - . Dan takes a scan of the pencil preparation and inks it digitally, carefully following my pencil work, and designing the background in his own way based on my rough scribbles.

Colour - . Credit where credit's due. This is the longest and probably hardest process. Sarah takes Dan's inked image and colours it, providing excellent shading work and also using realistic effects for various objects within the image wherever possible, such as the sun, clouds, sea and cigarette smoke that you see in this image.

For me, this Three-Way Art Collaboration is a success, and the process will be used to bring the characters of Tales of Pieutira to life in the upcoming series that the three of us are working on.
